Luckily the mediums fit my boyfriend, because if you are in the US like I am, watch out because return shipping costs make it completely not worth returning anything. ($39 to return 7 shirts!!) I ordered the smalls and they're perfect, not tight in the waist AT ALL even though my waist can be bigger than 30 inches. I have one printed t-shirt from them that I've had for several years. I wash all my clothes warm and machine-dry on warm, and that shirt has held up really well, and these new shirts I got seem to be just the same (I've washed them a couple times, they did not seem to shrink or anything at all) so I don't know about the washing suggestions, maybe they're just to be more eco-friendly.
