In 2022, searches for \u2018circular fashion\u2019 increased by 100% year on year. The fashion industry is attempting to become more sustainable and eliminate the huge amounts of waste is produced. In fact, every second a rubbish truckload of clothing is burned or buried in landfill.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

There\u2019s a lot of discussion about closed-loop systems and circular fashion. But what does circular fashion really mean? And what is a \u201cclosed-loop\u201d system? In an industry where greenwash is widespread (brands claim to be more sustainable than they really are), it\u2019s helpful to understand these terms when you see them.<\/span><\/p>

Circular fashion reimagines the entire lifecycle of clothing, from design to manufacturing, and product end of life. It\u2019s a system where materials never become waste and nature is regenerated.<\/span><\/p>

Historically, the clothing industry has predominantly operated within a linear model, characterised by the \u201ctake-make-waste\u201d approach. This involves the extraction of finite resources, high-energy manufacturing processes, and a short lifespan for products, leading to significant waste and environmental degradation.<\/span><\/p>

One aspect of circular fashion is recovering products at the end of their natural lifecycle (when they\u2019re worn out) to be remade into new products. This is what is often called a \u201cclosed-loop\u201d system.<\/span><\/p>
