Bikepacking: Forget the Faff. Keep the Adventure.
Bikepacking has a way of reminding you how little you actually need. A bike, a bag, a route you’re excited about. That’s it. In a world that keeps telling us to upgrade, optimise and accumulate, there’s something quietly rebellious about carrying only what earns its place. Maybe that’s why it feels so freeing — it shows you, in real time, that meaning often begins where the excess ends.

Bikepacking strips things back fast. A bike, a bag and a plan, that’s all you really need. In a world full of upgrades and add-ons, there’s something refreshing about taking only what earns its place. You feel it as soon as you roll out: fewer distractions, fewer decisions, more headspace.

That’s exactly how Island rider Tim Wiggins sees it. “It resets everything,” he told us. “Just me, my bike, the landscape.” Travelling light forces you to be intentional. Every stop, every meal, every small choice feels like part of the journey, not something squeezed between tasks. The adventure gets bigger when the kit list gets smaller.

Cycling culture can make things feel complicated - categories, tech, endless reasons to buy more. Tim sees it differently: “Once you’re out there, none of that matters.” The rule of bikepacking is simple: if it works, bring it. If it doesn’t, leave it behind.

Laying your kit on the floor before a trip is its own discipline. You pick only what’s useful: a warm layer, food, a tool you hope you won’t need but bring anyway. Nothing extra. That mindset translates directly into product design.

When we designed our jacket, we used the same principle. No unnecessary extras. No overloaded features you’ll never use. Just the essentials: durable organic cotton, weather protection and a fit that moves with you on and off the bike. Fewer components. Non-plastic materials. A design that can be remade at the end of its life - simple to use, simple to recycle.

You see this simplicity out on the bike too: fewer distractions, less plastic, more coastline and more focus. Tim calls it “a moving meditation.”

The Isle of Wight suits this approach. “You’re never far from the sea,” Tim said. One minute you’re climbing, the next you’re threading through lanes or rolling along cliff edges. His rides link the places he grew up riding - gravel tracks, downs, bridleways and quiet backroads. There’s no perfect route. The point is to build one as you go. He shares more over on lifeinthesaddle.com, but the real magic is making your own loop out of places you already know.

This kind of riding cuts through the noise. No elite rules, no shopping list, just slow miles, light bags and a bit of purpose. A stove, a warm layer, socks drying by the fire. It proves a point we’ve believed in for years: Things work better when you cut out the unnecessary.

That’s the logic behind our whole system - design with nature, keep materials simple, build quality products that can come back and be remade instead of ending up in landfill.

As Tim puts it: “The best kit is the stuff you forget about because it just works.”

A jacket that does its job.
